UP CM Yogi Adityanath Removes DM, SP Over Sonbhadra massacre

Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday removed Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP) Salman Taj Patil and District Magistrate (DM) Ankit Agarwal with immediate effect after killing 10 Gond tribals over a land dispute.

SP and DM have been removed from their posts and departmental action has been initiated against them informed CM Yogi Adityanath.

“Action has been taken against Sonbhadra’s District Magistrate Ankit Agarwal and Superintendent of Police, Salman Taj Sahil. Adityanath said, he has been removed from his post with immediate effect and departmental action has been started against him,” CM said.

Adityanath said that action has also been taken against eight gazetted and seven non-gazetted officers. Adityanath said, “In case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will also be formed.”

Earlier, Yogi Adityanath had ordered a compensation of Rs. 18.5 lakhs to the bereaved families of the deceased and Rs. 2.5 lakh to the injured from the CM Relief Fund under SC / ST provisions.

On July 19, the Chief Minister in the state assembly said that 29 people have been arrested and four officials have been suspended in connection with the incident.

“Till now, 29 criminals have been arrested. A single barrel gun, three double-barrel guns, and a rifle have been seized. Whoever is found responsible for this incident, strictest action will be taken against them,” he had said.

Adityanath increased the compensation for the families of the dead from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 18.5 lakh and compensation of Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh for the injured people and ordered to complete the investigation within 10 days from 1952.
