One of the students told the reporters that Priyanka enquired if they had phones for clicking selfies. Priyanka posted a video of this group of school/college girls talking to a reporter.

“We said we neither have phones nor are they allowed in colleges. She then asked us if she should get it announced that girls should get phones and we said what more can we ask for our safety,” said the student.

“She asked us to study hard. I want that she continues to meet and talk to us like this,” said another student in the video.

This is one of Congress’ major steps towards attracting and getting women’s votes. Sources within the party say that making such promises will attract the public’s attention and will help them in the upcoming elections.

Earlier, Priyanka had announced her party would give 40 per cent of the tickets to women in UP, in the upcoming Assembly Elections.

She also declared at a press conference, “Any woman who wants to contest can give an application till November 15.’

Later, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The daughter of the country says – with our hard work, with the strength of education, with proper reservation I can go on and on.”

Congress is seeking to regain its foothold in the state after being out of power since 1989.

Up goes to elections in February next year along with other states like Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Mizoram.
