UP Man Shares Video Threatening To Behead Nupur Sharma, Arrested

Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly Police on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly threatened to behead suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma over her remarks against Prophet Muhammad. This comes after a video of the accused issuing the threats was shared on social media.

The arrest was made hours after a video of the accused, identified as Nasir Hussain, was shared on various social media platforms.

Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Aggarwal told PTI, “We have arrested Nasir Hussain for making online threats and inciting communal tension. The accused was arrested from his house in the Kassawan area under Faridpur Police station limits.”

A case has been registered against the accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and IT Act in the FIR registered at Faridpur police station.

Days after the arrest, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the police to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against any activity or remark intended to incite communal tension.

Meanwhile, Jodhpur police on Thursday arrested a lawyer’s clerk for threatening to behead Nupur Sharma and her associate for WhatsApp status in support of their remarks.

According to the police, accused Sohail Khan had threatened the complainant Mahendra Singh Rajpurohit on June 6 soon after posting the status on social media.

After the main seat of the Rajasthan High Court reopened on Monday, July 4, Rajpurohit filed a complaint and Khan was arrested.
