“We gave 40% representation to women (for UP Assembly polls) so that their empowerment doesn’t remain confined to paper. When women will truly be a part of politics then it will be translated not on paper but on the ground,” said Congress General Secretary.

Stressing on the Congress’s representation of women in the country, she said, “Congress gave the first woman PM to the country. Congress’ Sucheta Kripalani was the first woman CM. Our country had the first woman PM when other countries had very low women representation at that level.”

As per the Manifesto, women will also be entitled to subsidised loans, empowered by the party to increase their participation in the rural workforce, and women will also get preference under MGNREGA. The manifesto further lists that 50% of PDS shops will be allocated to women, free mobile phones will be given to girls who pass the class 12 examination, and electric scooters will be given to girls who complete graduation.

Apart from that, the women’s manifesto also promised that women will be given free travel in state transport buses and they would also receive three LPG cylinders per year. Women would also receive free Wi-Fi at home, especially those from poor families.
