UP Urges People To Celebrate Chhath Puja At Home, Follow COVID Protocol

Mumbai: The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an advisory for Chhath Puja in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, advising people to perform rituals at their homes or nearby, as much as possible.

However, the government said that arrangements would be made by the local administration at traditional places near rivers/ponds for worship. People should follow the COVID-19 protocol, such as wearing masks and following social distinctions, the government said.

Chhath is dedicated to Surya Dev and is one of the most popular festivals for the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh or Purvanchal. Devotees take a holy dip in the river, ponds, and other water bodies during the four-day festival from 19 to 20 November.

Chhath Puja is mainly celebrated by people from the border areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, and will be celebrated on 20 November. This year, the main festival is on 20 November when devotees will offer ‘Argh’ to the Sun God.
