US Registers Highest Daily Spike With 90,000 New COVID-19 Cases
Mumbai: According to John Hopkins University data, the United States set a new record for a day of COVID-19, with nearly 90,000 new cases reported on Thursday.
The US recorded 88,521 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, a 9,540 increase in the number of new infections recorded on Wednesday.
The country recorded 971 deaths on Thursday.
According to a recent analysis by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine, COVID-19 could kill approximately 2,250 Americans every day by mid-January.
Meanwhile, the US also set a new weekly record for COVID-19 infections with more than 500,000 cases, according to COVID tracking project data, Hill reported.
Twenty-five states have set a new record for cases in the past two weeks, including 17 states with a record spec since last Wednesday.
The Johns Hopkins University data displayed that since the pandemic first hit the country, a total of 8,947,830 confirmed COVID-19 and at least 228,656 deaths have been recorded.
