Vaccine Or COVID -ve Certificate Mandatory To Attend Functions On Dec 31: Goa CM

Mumbai: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that a double vaccination certificate or COVID-19 negative certificate will be made mandatory for attending functions on December 31 in the state.

The CM said that it has been made mandatory for parties and restaurants to have 100% vaccination or negative certificate otherwise people will not be allowed to host events.

He said that detailed guidelines and orders in this regard would be issued later on Wednesday.

With the COVID-19 cases crossing the three-mark on Tuesday, the CM ruled out imposing curfew or restrictions, saying his government does not want to disrupt the tourism business.

The coastal state was buzzing with tourists in view of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The state government is monitoring the COVID-19 positivity rate and tough decisions will be taken during the task force meeting to be held on January 3.

Ahead of New Year’s celebrations, hotels in the state are occupied by nearly 90 per cent of the population, while the beaches are crowded with tourists.

The coastal state reported a sudden spike in coronavirus cases with 112 people testing positive for the infection on Tuesday and on Monday it recorded 67 cases.

The caseload on Tuesday rose to 1,80,229, while the death toll reached 3,520 with one casualty due to the infection, as per official data.

Meanwhile, India has registered 9,195 fresh COVID-19 cases, a significant spike from the previous day’s figure of 6,358, and 302 deaths.
