Vultures Found Dead Body, Pigs Found lth,’ Says Yogi As He Slams Critics Of Maha Kumbh

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday launched a scathing attack on critics of the Maha Kumbh and strongly defended the state government’s handling of the religious gathering. Addressing the state assembly, he dismissed allegations of mismanagement and caste-based restrictions while taking a dig at the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government.

In a post on X, Yogi remarked, “Someone has rightly said that whatever one searched for in Maha Kumbh, they ended up finding it. The vultures found only the dead body … the pigs found filth … sensitive people got a beautiful picture of relationships … the faithful received virtue … the gentlemen got gentlemanliness and the devotees found God.”

He also shared a clip of his speech in the assembly, where he criticized the SP-led government’s handling of the Maha Kumbh in 2013. “Those who couldn’t accomplish anything themselves—those under whom the event became a victim of mismanagement and corruption—are now commenting on Maha Kumbh and playing with the sentiments of the people,” he said.

Yogi asserted that the Maha Kumbh has sent a message of India’s “sanatana ekta (unity)” to the world and has reinforced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat” (One India, Best India).

Rejecting allegations of caste-based restrictions at the event, Yogi clarified that all people were welcome, provided they had good intentions. “No caste was stopped. But those who go with bad intentions and try to create chaos will face consequences,” he warned.

The chief minister was responding to opposition criticism, particularly from the Samajwadi Party, over the BJP government’s handling of the Maha Kumbh in light of a recent stampede that claimed 18 lives.

He accused former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of neglecting Maha Kumbh preparations during his tenure and failing to review its arrangements. Yogi also alleged that Akhilesh appointed a “non-Sanatani” as in charge of the event in 2013, referring to SP leader Azam Khan, who was tasked with overseeing the preparedness.

Yogi Adityanath’s strong rebuttal comes amid mounting political tensions over the management of the grand religious event, as both the BJP and SP continue to trade barbs over their respective approaches to handling Maha Kumbh.
