Maharashtra came under President’s rule earlier this week after failing to form a government in the state.

The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party, could not claim to form the government, as its ally Shiv Sena remained on an equal share of the Chief Minister’s post and cabinet berth.

Shiv Sena walked out its 30-year-old alliance with the BJP after its proposed ’50-50′ power-sharing formula was rejected by the BJP. Shiv Sena wanted its candidate to be the chief minister of Maharashtra for 2.5 years as part of the formula which wasn’t acceptable to the BJP.
