Shreyas Iyer scored a ton and a half-century finishing the series against New Zealand as the second-highest run-getter behind Mayank Agarwal

Mumbai: Mumbai: Making his debut in the first Test Match against New Zealand in Kanpur, Shreyas Iyer had a memorable start to his Test career with the bat and wishes to continue to do well when given the opportunity.

After India’s win over NZ in Mumbai, Iyer said, “I’m not thinking of cementing a place. We’ve got so much competition and players in good form, I just want to do well when I get an opportunity.” Also Read: Mohammed Siraj Has Come A Long Way, We Can Rely On A Guy Like That: Kohli

He scored a ton and a half-century finishing the series as the second-highest run-getter behind Mayank Agarwal scoring 202 runs at an impressive average of 50.50.

Speaking about Rahul Dravid, Shreyas Iyer said that he has been inspiring these youngsters as they have all trained under him at the junior level.

“Dravid gives you confidence, we started off at India A. We’ve gelled really well, his work ethic and player management skills are amazing. Ahead of the South Africa series, Iyer is in a positive frame by scoring runs against New Zealand, adding that players will be given much-needed break as the series is being pushed back.

“We’ve got a five-day break, look forward to making one,” told Shreyas Iyer.

India defeated New Zealand by 372 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Mayank Agarwal’s heroics with the bat (150 & 62) and Jayant Yadav’s four-wicket haul in the second innings helped India seal the two-match series with 1-0.

With this win, Virat Kohli’s side will head to South Africa for three Tests and three ODIs, beginning December 26.
