‘We Will Try To Play Atleast, One Day-Night Test Match Every Year In India’ Sourav Ganguly

Mumbai: Just after holding the position of BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly started to work for the betterment of Indian cricket. He proposed Day-Night matches, he met Rahul Dravid to discuss NCA, etc. While talking about Day Night matches he discussed with Team management, captain and Bangladesh board and announced that 2nd test between India and Bangladesh will be Day-Night test on Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Ganguly showed a light on future Day Night matches, Split captaincy and reveal whether it is difficult to guide firebrand captain Virat.

He said he wants to play day-night match every year in India and will try to talk to the board of the country where Indian team will be travelling, “We will try and play one every year in India. That is for sure. When India goes on tour, we will talk to the board of the country we are visiting and see if we can feature in one.”

On split captaincy in white-ball format cricket, he said, “It has often been wondered whether Rohit Sharma’s experience of leading the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and also the national side in the absence of Kohli is enough for him to be made the white-ball captain. I don’t think that is required to be even discussed now.”

Meanwhile, on his new role, he said, “I have an enormous belief in myself. You give me something and if it needs to be turned around, I think I will. And that nobody became a good cricketer sitting in the dressing room. You will only be respected if you take a difficult challenge head-on. Give me responsibility and I will give it my best shot. Leave me alone and I might fall asleep.”

On dealing with Virat Kohli he said, “Not difficult at all. I just won’t get involved in team selection matters.”

As India’s interest in Test cricket is reducing so, Ganguly feels diss appointed he added, “These things move in a cycle. Yes, I was disappointed with the performance of South Africa on their last tour but I guess they need some time to get things in order and be the team I remember playing against. It is the same with Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Some time ago, Australia was not doing all that well but they have now turned things around.”

As selection committee is about to change in a month or so, he said, “We will look at people who have experience and competence
