We Would Be Happy If Sharad Pawar Becomes UPA President: Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: Stating that the UPA-led Congress has now weakened, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Friday suggested the need for the opposition to unite and strengthen the alliance.

“We would be happy if (Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar Sir becomes the president of UPA. But I have heard that he has refused it. If any such proposal comes up officially, we will support him.”

The Congress is weak now, so the opposition needs to unite and strengthen the UPA, ”Raut said, adding that his party was earlier part of the National Democratic Alliance.

He said that Congress is a big party and there are big things to decide. “As the MVA was formed here (Maharashtra), it needs to be seen whether such a front can be formed (nationally) …,” he said.
