Wearing Face Masks Made Mandatory In J&K’s Srinagar From May 1

Mumbai: On Wednesday, District Magistrate of Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary said that it is mandatory to wear a face mask in view of the outbreak of coronavirus.

An official statement issued by the district magistrate said, “From May 1, wearing face masks will be mandatory in all public places.”

The statement further reads, “Assistant Commissioner of Development, Srinagar (RRD Nodal Department) will make 15 lakh masks available for public development as per government order, approved through Rural Development Department, Social Welfare Department, SHG and other groups Will provide after. The competent authority for public distribution across Srinagar district with one packet of 5 masks provided per family. House to house distribution shall be made through RDD, ICDS, BLOs or other officers under the supervision of Additional District Magistrates in respective Zonal clusters.”

Chaudhary also said that the guidelines will remain in force for a period of 2 months until it is amended or withdrawn.

“Any violation of this order will take punitive action under Section 51 of Disaster Management and under Section 188 IPC, including fine,” he said.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronovirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir is 565, of which 176 have been recovered/discharged and 1 has been reported dead.
