We’ll Have To Live With Coronavirus: Arvind Kejriwal Requests Govt To Open Delhi

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday asks the central government to lift the lockdown in the capital. Only containment areas to be declared as Red zones.

“It is impossible that there will be no cases of coronavirus because it has not happened across the country. We will have to be ready to live with coronavirus”, says Kejriwal in an online briefing on Sunday.

Outlining the relaxations in the city Kejriwal insists the Centre upon barring 96 containment zones rest of the capital should be declared green zones.

Presently, all 11 districts in the city are currently declared as red zones.

“Imposing a lockdown was very important. If the Centre had not done so on March 24, there would have been a frightening situation in the country because, at that point, we were not ready to deal with the coronavirus disease. We did not have personal protective equipment kits, we did not have testing kits, hospitals were not ready, people were not aware of the idea of social distancing,” Kejriwal said.

The statement comes after the Capital faces a graving economic crisis. CM says the lockdown has created a severe impact on people.  “People are losing livelihoods. Traders can’t open their shops. There is no industrial activity. More jobs are being lost. Many people will leave Delhi soon.”

The lockdown has also declined the revenue which makes the capital unable to pay the salaries to run the government.

The CM asserts at taking serious actions if anyone is found spitting. With the progressive infrastructure, Delhi is now ready to lift the lockdown.

However, Delhi reported 427 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the toll to 4,549 cases and 64 deaths.
