West Bengal Administration Has Miserably Failed, Deploy More Army Contingents: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Mumbai:  Congress leader in Lok sabha and MP from Berhampore in West Bengal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has written a letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi requesting to deploy more Army contingents in cyclone ravaged West Bengal.

Chowdhury said in the letter that the Bengal government has “miserably failed” to cope with the disastrous situation caused by the ‘Amphan’ cyclone.

“Sir, out of desperation I do like to draw your kind attention that there is no tangible improvement of post ‘Amphan’ devastation in West Bengal, which has already assumed a catastrophic dimension. Distribution of food and relief to those affected areas are awfully inadequate,” Chowdhury stated in his letter.

He further mentioned that a large area has been inundated sea-water, dead bodies of animals floating around, which may contaminate the drinking water.

There is no electricity in the devastated parts, even in the capital city of Kolkata. Several serious patients are gasping for lives due to power outage for the last seven days in a row, he added further.

Meanwhile, 26 NDRF teams are already deployed in the state of West Bengal, and 5 columns of Army were in service as requested by the state government.

Earlier, Prime minister Narendra Modi had declared a Rs 1000 crore package on Friday, to cope up with the devastation caused by the “AMPHAN” cyclone in West Bengal.
