West Bengal Govt Allows Sale Of Non-Essential Items Through Home Delivery

Mumbai: The West Bengal government has allowed the sale of non-essential items through home delivery.

In an order dated 27 April, the state administration ordered that all associated activities in the supply chain of these commodities would also be allowed.

As a part of the order’s implementation process, delivery personnel must wear masks and follow social discrimination norms. The order further states, “The norms of social balance, health and hygiene protocol should be followed.”

So far, under the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, the center has allowed the sale of other essential items such as groceries, medicines, and cooking gas cylinders.

West Bengal, which locked horns with the center on various parameters of lockdown implementation, would thus become the first coronavirus-hit state to allow delivery of non-essential items during COVID-19.

Meanwhile with two more fatal incidents, West Bengal’s coronavirus death toll rose to 22 on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Health, 663 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state so far. While 119 patients have been discharged so far, 522 of these are active cases.
