Will Support CAB In Rajya Sabha Only If Centre Clears All The Queries Raised By Maha CM: Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has informed that party will support Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Rajya Sabha only if the Centre answers all the questions raised by his party chief.

Raut told reporters here, “We have to clear our doubts on this bill, if we do not get a satisfactory answer then our stance may be different from what was taken in the Lok Sabha.”

Raut said, “Vote bank politics should not be pursued. This is not correct. Do not try to divide Hindu-Muslim again. There is nothing in this Bill for Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka.”

The Shiv Sena leader further said that when he supported the bill in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha would be different as his party MPs could play an important role.

Raut said, “Despite our stand in the Lok Sabha, the support of Shiv Sena MPs will be very important. We will see what happens during the debate and then decide our stand.”

Earlier, Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray had said that the Shiv Sena will not support the proposed legislation unless the party’s queries in the Rajya Sabha were addressed.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 which seeks to grant citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zoroastrian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha today.

After seven hours of discussion, the bill was passed by a majority of 311 votes against 80 in the lower house on Monday.
