Woman Who Duped A Police Officer Of 70000 In 2018 Arrested

Mumbai: A year after a 30-year-old woman from Juhu allegedly cheated a police constable of Rs 70,000, she was arrested on Thursday. The police said that the woman, Pooja Thakkar, used to check into hotels and government guest houses by posing as a bureaucrat or magistrate and would vanish without settling bills.

The city police took transit custody of Thakkar from the Uttarakhand police on Thursday where she has been arrested for allegedly impersonating as a magistrate.

An officer from Airport police station said that Thakkar had approached constable Tanaji last year and borrowed Rs 70,000, promising to return it within two days. “She had then claimed to be a CBI officer and had flashed an identity card to lend credence to her claim,” said the officer. She had told the cop that she was running short of money and asked him to help her.

Thakkar had been arrested in 2016 for checking into a hotel in Nagpur and scooting after running up a bill of Rs 2.64 lakh which was unpaid.

The Mumbai police said she has a cheating case registered against her in the city, Nagpur, Pune and Mussoorie.
