Won’t Take Part In Poll Campaign, Says Congress Leader Sanjay Nirupam Ahead of Maharashtra Elections

Mumbai: Pointing to depending fissures in the Congress in Mumbai just weeks ahead of Maharashtra polls on October 21, former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday said that he will not take part in the poll campaign as his recommendation to the party have been rejected.

He tweeted without naming any leader, he said “It seems Congress party does not want my services anymore. I had recommended just one name in Mumbai just for the assembly election. Heard that even has been rejected. As I told has told the leadership earlier, in that case, I will not be participating in all campaign.”

He said, “Being a senior member of the congress party, I deserve some respect. I only suggested just one name for Maharashtra election poll, that too was rejected. Three lists have been released till now, I have already told the senior leadership that if that name is not given the ticket, I won’t be taking part in the election campaign. If this is in discipline, the party can take action against me.”

Criticizing the top leadership Nirupam says, “The future of Congress in Mumbai is very bad as incompetent people on the driving seats.”

On September 11, Sanjay Nirupam had taken to microblogging website to say that infighting was ‘part and parcel of every organization’ while requesting Urmila Matondkar to reconsider his decision to quit the Congress.

Notably, in 2014 Nirupam had contested from Mumbai North constituency on the Congress ticket but could not win.
