Wrestler Sakshi Malik Wins Her 1st CWG Gold Medal, India’s 8th At CWG 2022

Mumbai: Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won her first CWG gold medal after defeating Ana Godinez Gonzalez of Canada in the women’s freestyle 62 kg final at CWG 2022.

Canada’s Gonzalez dominated the match at the start as he took a 0-4 lead in the first period. Then in the second period, Malik made a full comeback to level the score at 4-4 and won the match via fall. The match lasted for 3 minutes and 47 seconds.

Malik defeated Cameroon’s Eten Ngole 10–0 on technical superiority to reach the final.
Sakshi Malik defeated Kelsey Barnes of England 10-0 in the quarterfinal9s to enter the semi-finals of the women’s freestyle 62kg.

Earlier, star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia on Friday won gold for India after winning the final against Canada’s Lachlan McNeil in the men’s 65kg at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Anshu Malik also won the silver medal in the Women’s Freestyle 57kg category in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 after losing to Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye of Nigeria at the Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Friday.
