Youth Who Voted ‘8 Times’ In UP Arrested After Video Goes Viral
Mumbai: In a serious breach of election regulations, a youngster in Uttar Pradesh allegedly voted eight times for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. A video circulating on social media shows the individual recording himself as he casts votes at multiple polling booths, raising significant concerns about the integrity of the election process.
According to the Election Commission (EC) rules, each voter is allowed to cast their vote only once, and the use of phones or any electronic devices is strictly prohibited inside polling booths. The video, which quickly went viral, has led to widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Election Commission by sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter). He questioned whether the EC would take any action regarding this blatant violation of election laws.
In the video, the youngster is seen entering various polling booths and casting his vote for the BJP multiple times, while keeping a tally of his actions.
This incident is not isolated, as other poll violations have been reported across different constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Genuine voters have allegedly been denied the opportunity to cast their votes. During the fourth phase of elections on May 13, the Samajwadi Party highlighted numerous irregularities.
In Sambhal district, there were allegations that Muslim voters were subjected to lathicharge by the police and subsequently barred from voting. Additionally, in Lekhimpur Kheri district, voters complained that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines displayed the BJP symbol even when they selected the Cycle symbol, representing the Samajwadi Party.
These reports of electoral misconduct have raised alarms about the fairness and transparency of the election process. The Election Commission is under increasing pressure to address these issues and ensure that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. As the situation unfolds, the public and political parties alike are demanding swift and decisive action to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
