Ex-BJP Leader Yashwant Sinha Joins TMC Ahead Of West Bengal Assembly Elections

Mumbai: Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Kolkata on Saturday ahead of the state assembly elections.

Right after joining TMC, Sinha said, “The country is facing an unprecedented situation today. The power of democracy lies in the institutions of democracy. All these institutions including the judiciary are now weakened.”

Taking a dig at the BJP, he said, “In Atal Ji’s time the BJP believed in consensus, but today the government believes in crushing and winning. The Akalis, the BJD have left the BJP. Who stands with the BJP today?”

He was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party until he decided to quit the BJP in April 2018.

West Bengal will witness the eight-phase assembly elections beginning March 27. The term of the 16th Legislative Assembly of West Bengal will end on May 30 this year.

A total of 7,34,07,832 voters will choose their representative for the 17th Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.
