Bharti Singh Booked For Allegedly Hurting Sentiments Of Sikh Community In Viral Video

Mumbai: An FIR has been lodged against comedian Bharti Singh over an old video in which she allegedly mocked men with beards.

The FIR was registered in Punjab’s Amritsar on Monday night on the complaint of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which alleged that she had hurt the sentiments of Sikhs.

An FIR has been lodged against the reality-show host, ‘daadhi moonch’ for Bharti’s remarks in the video in which she jokes on the benefits of having a beard and moustache. Bharti made this joke a long time ago during an interview on a chat show hosted by Jasmin Bhasin, but this video is now going viral.

The video footage shows Bharti saying that “daadhi moonch ke bade fayde hote hain, doodh piyo, aise daadhi munh me daalo, bilkul sewaiyon ka taste aata hai.” (There are many benefits of having a beard and a moustache, if one drinks milk and then puts their beard in their mouth, it will give the taste of sewai (a sweet dish prepared of vermicelli).

An FIR was registered against Bharti on May 16 under section 144(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for hurting the religious sentiments of a community.

However, on Monday, Bharti shared a video on Instagram, in which she is seen clarifying that she did not mention any particular community while commenting on ‘daadi moonch’. She also apologized for inadvertently hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

Sharing the video, Bharti wrote, “Main comedy karti hoon logo ko khush karne ke liye na ki kisi ka dil dukhane ke liye .agar meri kisi baat se koi hurt hua ho tho maaf kar dena aapni behan samjh ke🙏🏽🙏🏽”
