Jerlyn D’silva’s Rise As A Top Influencer Will Inspire Every Youngster Out There

Exploring entails stepping outside your comfort zone, trying new things, and visiting unknown locations. If you do not want to travel down a certain path, you shouldn’t. Create your own path and leave a trail instead. Jerlyn D’silva is one such individual who has dabbled in everything from being a food blogger to working as a client partner.

A multi-talented woman from Pune who started her career as a food blogger in 2015 before transitioning to a lifestyle blogger. She began writing for online food delivery and search engine before launching her own blog, where she featured restaurants, spas, fashion houses, and other businesses.

One’s personal growth is extremely vital, and Jerlyn has come a long way! She began her career as a baker when she was just 15, with very low resources. But driven by a desire to learn more and see more, she landed herself an internship as a creative writer and radio jockey at 94.3 Radio One, Pune.

And now that she had gained experience, it was time to move on to something fresh and interesting. She went to work for a design firm as a senior content writer and social media manager. And as she moved forward, she kept adding feathers to her cap & the next move for her was getting into public relations and successfully gained a decent experience in it.

She believes that the quest for learning is never-ending and it is funny how we learn something new each day! As a result, she got herself the position of Marketing Communications Head of a 5-star hotel at the age of 23. Moving forward, she is now leading a team at a digital marketing firm, while her blogging remains constant.

Talking about the current situation, “People, in my opinion, do not research well and are worried only about the number game. All these brand collaborations, meals at fancy restaurants, staycations, exclusive access to certain events, apps, launch parties might look super fancy and is overwhelming at times. But the fact of the matter is that you must work hard for it, stay consistent and most importantly, find a niche. Find or make content which talks or shows who the real you is! Your content should be about the unique you. Furthermore, I feel that aspiring creators & influencers should stop stressing about numbers as everything has its own time. Slow down and be true to what you’re doing, and you’ll succeed”, says D’silva.

Sometimes life throws you a lot of curveballs, and you end up doing beautifully exceptional things. Similarly, food blogging was never a part ofJerlyn’splan. And all this began, after a tête-à-tête with Seby Singh a food blogger in New York. Seby Singh is D’silva’s mentor and despite staying poles apart she helps her and motivates her to do what is best.

Upon asking Jerlyn what exactly happened in that one meeting with Seby, she mentioned, “I clearly remember meeting her at a food festival where both of us were eagerly waiting at the entrance and that is how the conversation began. Seby spoke about her blogging journey and we kept in touch via emails and she kept encouraging me to write about food. At first, I wondered who even writes about food? But then I finally started writing and developed a liking for it. And as I started writing, I came across people’s articles and realised it is serious business and since then there has been no looking back. I later invested in a camera and started my own blog”.

All the hard work over the years has gained her a following of 27.4K people who absolutely enjoy consuming her content which revolves around food, fashion, fitness, lifestyle, and celebrity content. She does not limit her page to just luxury hotels and restaurants but also enjoys eating at street-side stalls. Apart from the food she also enjoys talking about bling & sustainable fashion.

Her dedication has earned her numerous accolades, including a place in Femina India Magazine as one of the top female writers in India. She is a five-time nominee for the prestigious FBI Awards and bagged herself the title of India’s Top Five Female Writers at the Orange Flower Awards. She was also featured in Pune Times as one of the best food bloggers in Pune.

“First and foremost, find a niche, and once you do, work hard towards it. There are no quick fixes for success. Create one-of-its-kind content and trust in it, and the rest will fall into place. Everything moves at its own pace, so experiment, try out new things and engage with your audience. Ask them about their likes and dislikes and make the most of those 30 seconds you get to grab your audience’s attention. And the next important thing is to stay consistent! Last but not least – do not compare yourself to others”, says Jerlyn.

Jerlyn always wanted to be a pastry chef (thus baking at 15). She holds a degree in Marketing. Beyond that, she wants to keep researching and travelling for the love of food and is helping people who follow her, live her life vicariously through her content.

Loving what you do and staying consistent can help you achieve success. And sometimes the unexpected can turn out to be something you will cherish all your life & Jerlyn D’silva is a perfect illustration of this.
