Maha Schools To Reopen On June 15; Masks Not Mandatory: Minister

Mumbai: Schools in Maharashtra will reopen on June 15 with COVID-19-appropriate measures regardless of the rising cases, state School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said on Monday.  Talking to the media, he has said that the schools to reopen in Maharashtra will start on June 15, 2022, as per the schedule.

Maharashtra schools will reopen on June 15, 2022, but with COVID-19 safety protocols.

According to an ANI report, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has said that even though these protocols will be applicable, masks will not be mandatory for everyone. Besides, the fresh COVID-19 related Standard Operating Procedures, SOPs are also expected to be out very soon.

According to ANI, Varsha Gaikwad said, “We are taking stock of the COVID situation, the cases are increasing, but we will open the school on June 15 with appropriate measures against COVID. Mask is not mandatory. New SOPs will be issued to schools. The further decision should be taken as per the situation.”

Meanwhile, the state has witnessed a spurt in COVID cases in the last few days. There have been many such cases in Mumbai, which crossed 800 on Saturday and again on Sunday. Updates on Maharashtra schools reopening are still awaited.

On Sunday, Mumbai reported a total of 961 new cases while the state’s tally stood at 1494. Similar numbers were reported on Saturday as well, prompting the State Government to recommend masks again and alert the health care centres of a possible increase.
