Raj & Shilpa Threatened Me With Underworld, I’ve Sent ₹75cr Notice: Sherlyn
Mumbai: Sherlyn Chopra has claimed that businessman Raj Kundra and his actress-wife Shilpa Shetty threatened her with the underworld and sent a defamation notice but she will not get scared.
According to ANI, Sherlyn said that Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty have threatened her underworld and sent a defamation notice but she will not be scared.
“I request the police to record my statement so that my complaint can be taken cognizance. I have sent a reply notice asking for Rs 75 crore for mental harassment,” she said.
According to a report in India Today, Sherlyn’s lawyer Suhail Sharif said in a statement, “Unfortunately, defamation cases are used as a weapon to suppress justice and freedom of expression. It is used as a tool that can enable the accused to turn the tables and make a culprit out of a victim. A defamation suit falls under the category of what is globally known as SLAPP (strategic law against public participation) suits. A SLAPP suit is intended to censor, intimidate and silence a party from speaking freely and fearlessly by burdening them with the stress and cost of a legal defence until they abandon their criticism or opposition.”
The statement also contains an excerpt from Sherlyn’s reaction to the legal notice. It said, “A woman cannot be punished for raising her voice against the exploitation and exploitation being done to her because the right to dignity cannot be protected at the cost of the dignity of women.”
The statement said that Sherlyn Chopra has a fundamental right to put forth her grievance on any platform of her choice.
It alleged that “Raj Kundra’s notice is a means to complicate the main issue and divert attention from the entire controversy”.
On October 19, Raj and Shilpa’s lawyers filed a defamation suit against Sherlyn for Rs 50 crore. According to the notices sent by their lawyers, the couple has claimed that the allegations levelled against them are “fabricated, false, bogus, frivolous, baseless” without any evidence.
Sherlyn filed a complaint against Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty on October 14. Chopra further accused Raj, alleging that on March 27, 2019, Kundra came to his house late in the night and sexually assaulted him.
On March 29, she said, she had to do a photoshoot under pressure. Sherlyn then alleged that for the next 10 months Raj Kundra pursued her to associate with his other firm JL Stream and was asked to upload fitness-related content.
