Sonam Shares Post Saying If ‘Turban Can Be A Choice, Why Not Hijab’ Amid Row

Mumbai: Actress Sonam Kapoor has weighed in on the Karnataka dress code row by sharing a post that questioned why wearing a turban can be a choice but wearing a hijab can’t.

Taking to Instagram, Sonam shared a picture of a man in a turban and a woman in a hijab, and it questions why can a turban be a choice but a hijab can’t.

Sonam’s post comes days after several women in Karnataka were harassed by protesters for wearing hijab.

The entire controversy erupted after the Karnataka government on February 5 ordered a dress code to be made mandatory in all schools and colleges, banning clothing that “disrupts equality, integrity and public law and order”.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Supreme Court refused to urgently hear an appeal against the Karnataka High Court’s interim order (written order yet to be issued) banning hijab and other religious attire in schools and colleges in the state.
