Exclusive: “Theatre Has Its Own Charm And It Will Never Fade Away,” Says Actress Pranati Rai Prakash

Pranati Rai Prakash has always received a tremendous amount of love and fame through her modelling and acting skills. The actress has always been in demand for her bold and outstanding acting has finally announced about her upcoming web series “Cartel”

Supermodel turned actress Pranati Rai Prakash has gained lots of love and appreciation for her dedication towards the work over the years.

In the latest interaction with The Prevalent India, she spoke about how OTT has boosted over the period of time but at the same time, she also feels that OTT cannot take over the theatre as it has its own charm and different experience while watching a film especially when it comes for action, thriller drama.

Tell us about your character in the Cartel?

So, my role is of a younger girl who is aspiring to be an actor while she belongs to a gangster family, she is a character full of conflict. Her name is “Sumi” and she is the youngest daughter of the – “Angre family” which is you can say the ruling family of the “Catholic group” so that’s my character.

How was your experience working in such a thriller drama series?

My experience was very good working with all my co-actors, my script, the show, watching it been made when those scenes would be happening, with some action and thrill.  There were a lot of interesting times when I would be wearing the harness and doing some scenes, that I can’t talk about if you will watch the show, you will know.

Yes, it was very intense. I think just being there on the set constantly watching so much happening and it was like a movie going on the set also, I was very excited, watching everything that’s happening all the cameras, it was quite exciting.

How mentally you were prepared for shooting during a pandemic? And how much tough it is?

So, the pandemic was affected all around.  I remember I started my new dairy and I wrote my character’s name Sumi with a heart, and it was like the new beginning. Yes, I was shooting for series and it was very hard to cope up with my loss, as I lost my mother the last January still, I managed to give it the best shot, I used to motivate myself that I just have to come back to the set and be with my character and just do my part. My mother was always in my mind. I used to think, ‘What is the one thing my mother would want me to do’ and I just did that and you know I ended up giving so much to the show because you’re so empty from the inside and then whatever character you are doing you completely get lost in it. She was very close to me.

Then the pandemic occurred and I think initially for me it was a break that I required because for a long time I had been shooting and constantly working. I think the lockdown was just a break to get over everything to understand where I am and who I am.  I needed that time. But after a point again, our show started mid-way, so we were all waiting for the pandemic to get over to start soon. Then I shot from October till January and finally, we finished and I think everyone was very brave to come back and shoot for the show amidst the pandemic. But I think we took that step we just wanted to really complete this and we all hope it turns out good.

How was your experience working with Ritvik Dhanjani?

Ritvik is playing the role of my elder brother in the series. I know him before as I was in a show called “India’s next superstar” and he was the anchor there. Previously, I was very nervous and never spoke to him and then we finally met on this set.  Gradually, our bond came out strong which also helped us in our character as well.

It was easy for me to be on the screen that way as well. Even on screen, they love each other, have great chemistry and are protective siblings who stand by each other in every situation. It was great I think he is an amazing actor.

We were intense on sets. It was not fun but we would always come with more energy and everything that would happen further like me getting scared or crying or whatever it’s almost so real because he is so good at acting, I would feel as if it is like a real-life scenario.

I am very grateful that I got a chance to work with him, Supriya mam, Jitendra Joshi sir all of them are brilliant and very supportive.

Since the pandemic has occurred, there is so much boost over OTT platforms, do you think in the future OTT will take over theatre?

I don’t think OTT will take over because “theatre has its own charm”, nothing like sitting on a big screen and you know especially in an action movie imagine Cartel to release in a theatre it would be so amazing, the big screen can’t be replaced any other way.

Because it’s larger than life and it’s really good “I mean that’s why maybe movies were so special”. Content-wise no doubt that web content is better. There are some amazing web series. That I have also worked on, a lot of time I prefer to watch a web series than a movie and beyond that, I think with the routine of the people whether they are at home or the office all they want is to be in a comfort zone and watch something so that is the added advantage that OTT has. I think here, content really matters.

One dream project/movie you wish to do and with whom?

I think my dream project may be, Oh My God!! I love Brad Pitt, and a lot of other actors but lately I have been thinking what if I was in LA and did a movie with Brad Pitt“ that would be a dream to live in LA in Hollywood and do a project with Brad Pitt, the dream can be anything so this was my dream.”

Do you believe this industry is a cut-throat place and you’ve to be on your toes here all the time to stay ahead?

People think acting and movies are all about glamour. But trust me it is very difficult to survive and stay in the competition.

Finding the desired project itself is a daunting task. There are a lot of rejections. 90 % of your projects would be rejected at first.  So it’s very difficult, it’s cutthroat competition, but I guess your journey towards your dreams is not an easy road. How much do you want is a very important factor.

There are bad days for sure. But my father always tells me to stay consistent in my goals. Instead of just overthinking, I try to stick firmly to my goals and stay disciplined.  Its rightly said that you keep working hard and good things would come your way sooner or later.

What else do you have up your sleeve?

About my upcoming projects, there is a Cartel on 20th August.

There is a tent house which has again some great people that I’m working with, this one releases in the second half of this year.

And right now I am working on a web series that is very exciting for me, it is a very demanding character, which needs a lot of great performance I’m just focusing on that trying to deliver well so I justify my part, I’m really into the script right now I’m trying to do my prep work because of lockdown, I have had enough time to prepare.

And yeah once I finished shooting I will take up another project, but I’m just working on one as if now.
