Young Women Put Sexualised Images, But It’s Not Their Fault: Sonam Kapoor

Mumbai: Actress Sonam Kapoor has stated that she sees a lot of her young colleagues who are catering to an audience by putting out highly sexualised imagery, adding that it’s not their fault.

In an interview with Vogue India, Sonam also revealed how ‘weird’ she finds paparazzi videos focusing on the female body in a sensual way. She said that whenever she posts a ‘sexy’ photo of herself on social media, she always gets more likes than a normal photo.

Sonam said, “There are these paparazzi videos of actresses, where they’re using these phone cameras and they’re zooming in on their butt or their boobs. Or, if they’re walking up the stairs, they’re showing off their jeans. It’s a bit weird, and you can see that the opinions on that are much higher. For example, if I put a sexy picture of myself on Instagram, it gets 10 times more likes than a picture of me in a pretty dress. I promise.’

“In this world of clicks and likes… especially in the West where you have reality TV celebrities whose ideas have been photoshopped, airbrushed, and plastic surgery is done. Those very sexist images are all right now. And I see a lot of my young colleagues who cater to that audience, like lumpy lips… And it’s not their fault.”

Sonam, who is expecting her first child with her husband Anand Ahuja, is currently in New Delhi. She spent most of the last year in London and took some rest while acting. She will soon be seen in the thriller Blind. Her last film in a leading role was 2019’s The Zoya Factor. However, she did make a cameo appearance in her father Anil Kapoor’s AK vs AK on Netflix.
