3 Terrorists Sent By Pakistani Handlers To Target Amarnath Yatra Killed In Srinagar

Mumbai: Three terrorists were neutralised by police in an encounter in Srinagar on Monday night. The police said that they intended to target the Amarnath Yatra, which begins on June 30. The encounter – which took place in Srinagar’s Bemina area – came amid attacks on civilians in the Valley. A constable suffered minor injuries during the security operation.

The attack was planned involving three terrorists – two from Pakistan and a local, who had been in the country since 2018, officials underlined.

“Pakistan-based handlers had sent two Pakistani terrorists of LeT terror outfit along with one local terrorist Adil Hussain Mir of Pahalgam Anantnag, who has been in Pakistan since 2018 (now all 3 killed), with the intention to attack Yatra: IGP Kashmir. (sic),” the Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet. The locals had crossed over to Pakistan in 2018 from Wagah.

Describing the operation as a “huge success”, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar was quoted in the tweet as saying that one of the three men was from Faisalabad, Pakistan. Documents and weapons were recovered after the encounter.

Two Pakistani terrorists had escaped from an encounter in Sopore and their movements were being traced since then.

Police said two AK-47 rifles, 10 magazines, live rounds, Y-SMS devices and other incriminating material have been recovered.
