5 Killed In 24 Hours In Maharashtra Amid Heavy Rains; Death Toll Rises To 89

Mumbai: At least five persons were killed in 24 hours amid heavy rains and flood-like situations across various districts in Maharashtra.

The total death toll has risen to 89. One person died in Raigad due to the collapse of a structure and another died in Palghar in a landslide.

Notably, three persons lost their lives in Nagpur due to flash floods.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department Wednesday issued a nowcast warning for Maharashtra’s Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur districts, predicting moderate to intense rainfall at isolated places in the next 3 to 4 hours.

The IMD has also issued a similar warning for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, Osmanabad, Aurangabad, Beed and Nashik districts.

An orange alert for Mumbai and Thane is in place till Thursday while a red alert has been issued for Palghar and Raigad for the same period, indicating extremely heavy rainfall. Rainfall caused waterlogging and traffic jams in Mumbai on Tuesday.

With overnight heavy rainfall, several low-lying areas in Mumbai— Sion, SV Road between Bandra and Andheri, Milan and Andheri subway were inundated.
