Punjab CM Amarinder Singh Urges PM Modi To Reopen Kartarpur Corridor

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor so that devotees can visit the shrine dedicated to Sikh Guru Nanak Dev in Pakistan.

The pilgrimage to Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara was suspended in March 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

According to an official release, in a letter to the PM, Singh said his government would be happy to work closely with the central government to ensure proper COVID-19 testing, including testing and immunization of pilgrims using the corridor. Be sure to follow protocol.

He expected a positive attitude from the PM in this regard.

He wrote, “The situation of COVID-19 in Punjab has improved markedly in the last one month and I am happy to report that yesterday, after almost a year, no COVID-19 related death was reported. Didn’t get it.”

He said that in the changed scenario, people have expressed their desire to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

The Kartarpur corridor links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in the Gurdaspur district.
