AAP’s Punjab CM Candidate Bhagwant Mann Wins Dhuri Seat By Defeating Dalvir Goldy

Mumbai: In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Singh Mann won by a huge margin of over 45,000 votes in line with his party’s impressive performance in the state, where it was on track to form the government.

Mann got 65,858 votes, defeating his nearest rival and Congress MLA Dalveer Singh Goldie, who got 20,767 votes. According to the Election Commission data, Prakash Chand Garg of Shiromani Akali Dal got 5,226 votes.

Comedian-turned-politician, 48-year-old Mann is a two-time Member of Parliament (MP) from Sangrur, which is part of Punjab’s electorally decisive Malwa belt.

In 2017, Dhuri saw an uphill battle with Goldie, who eventually emerged victorious, defeating Jasvir Singh of AAP by 2,811 votes.

Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP will unseat the Congress in Punjab to form its second state government after Delhi, as it leading in 91 seats.

The Congress was ahead in 16 seats and the SAD-BSP alliance on six seats.
