Attempts Being Made To Divide Tamil Nadu On Basis Of Caste & Religion: Stalin

Mumbai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Sunday said attempts are being made to divide the state on the basis of caste and religion. The CM stressed that only a peaceful country can develop in all fields. MK Stalin attends the Iftar party at Ramachandra Convention Center in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

“Efforts are being made to divide Tamil Nadu on the basis of caste and religion. Some people want to stop the development of the state by dividing us. The people of Tamil Nadu should realize this and act. Only a peaceful country can achieve all kinds of development,” Stalin said.

The DMK president also considered the approach of his party’s political rival AIADMK towards the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) Bill.

“We made a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. AIADMK was voted in favour of CAA, but we not only opposed but also did a signature campaign,” MK Stalin said.

Claiming that the CAA was not in accordance with the secular principles laid down by the Constitution, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin last year passed a resolution against the bill.

“According to the established democratic principles, a country should be governed keeping in view the aspirations and concerns of the people of all sections of the society. But, it is clearly seen that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was passed in such a way that it does not accord warm support to the refugees considering their plight, but instead discriminates against them according to their religion and their country of origin,” Stalin had said.

Earlier, attending a function to mark the 30th anniversary of Everwin Group of Schools at Kolathur in Chennai on Saturday, the Tamil Nadu CM said unity, not hatred, would help in the development of the state and the country.

Stalin also emphasized that identities like ‘Tamil’ and ‘Indian’ should only bind people together and not as tools of hatred.
