COVID19: Puducherry Imposes Night Curfew Till 31st January

Mumbai: Amid a nationwide increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and omicron infections, Puducherry has imposed a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am till January 31, 2022.

However, it will not be imposed on Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

In its notification, the Puducherry government said that though the number of fresh positive cases has come down, the omicron variant has been detected in the samples of the UT.

Hence, it is important to keep an eye on the COVID-19 transmission, read the notification.

In addition to the night curfew, the following restrictions will be in force with immediate effect till December 31 (midnight):

Despite the detection of Omicron cases in Puducherry, the administration has allowed New Year celebrations amid strict COVID-19 protocols.

New Year celebrations will be allowed at all places, public places during the night of 30-31 December and 1 January, subject to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to be followed by all concerned.

The middle road will be closed at 12:30 pm and there will be no mass movement after 2 pm.

The Union Territory will deploy teams of health, revenue and police officers to oversee the celebrations and ensure that there is attendance as per the sanctioned strength at each venue.

The health department will also conduct random testing and those who are symptomatic will not be allowed to enter the venue.

On Thursday, Puducherry registered 15 fresh coronavirus cases taking the overall tally to 1,29,461 and a fatality taking the death toll to 1,881.

The number of active cases stood at 128 which included 31 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals and 97 in home isolation.

The test positivity rate was 0.65 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.45 per cent and 98.45 per cent respectively.
