Drinking Alcohol Was Considered Sin By Mahatma Gandhi, Says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

Mumbai: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday called people drinking alcohol “sinners” after the state assembly passed the Bihar Prohibition and Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which is considered a sin by Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking in the Bihar Assembly, “Someone went to drink liquor and died of drinking spurious liquor, alcohol is bad. Prohibition should be implemented.”

He further said that Mahatma Gandhi has also said that drinking alcohol is a bad thing and one who does not listen to Bapu is a great sinner. He said that laws are made but no one follows them. Someone had gone to drink and died of drinking spurious liquor, alcohol is bad, he said.

“Further he said that a liquor ban should be implemented. It is bad to drink alcohol, Bapu has also said and he who does not listen to Bapu is a great sinner, Laws are made but no one follows them,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Bihar Assembly passed the Bihar Prohibition and Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which empowers the state government to impose penalties for certain categories of offences instead of direct imprisonment.
