Ex-UP Minister Swami Prasad Maurya, Who Joined SP, Loses By 32,000 Votes

Mumbai: A former minister in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet Swami Prasad Maurya, who had joined Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party just ahead of state polls, lost from Fazilnagar seat by over 32,000 votes, EC data shows.

Swami Prasad Maurya, once a top leader of the state Bahujan Samaj Party, left it in 2016 to join the BJP. By winning the Padrauna assembly seat, he was made a cabinet minister in the Yogi government.

However, soon after the announcement of the 2022 assembly polls, Maurya switched loyalties to SP. Sensing trouble, Maurya even changed his constituency from Padrauna to Fazilnagar.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya was trailing by nearly 1,500 votes as per election trends from Sirathu’s seat on Thursday.

On the other hand, UP Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu is also trailing from the Tamkuhi Raj constituency.

According to the Election Commission, after the preliminary round of counting, Maurya got 28,387 votes, while his nearest rival SP Pallavi Patel got 30,901 votes.

While Maurya has got 43.76 per cent votes so far, Patel has got 47.63 per cent votes.

Lallu, the sitting MLA from Tamkuhi Raj, has got 17,006 votes so far and is at the third position.

According to the Election Commission, BJP candidate Asim Kumar maintained a comfortable lead with 51,222 votes, while SP’s Uday Narayan got 20,958 votes.

Lallu has so far commanded 16.42 per cent votes while Kumar has got 49.46 per cent votes and SP candidate has secured 20.24 per cent votes.
