Farmers Will Protest With Rail Roko Program For 6 Hours On October 18

Farmers have accused the union minister Ajay Mishra Teni of criminal conspiracy

Mumbai: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has decided to disrupt train services for six hours on October 18 (Monday) as a protest against the lack of action taken against Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, who is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence in which 4 farmers were killed on October 3.

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson announced, “Farmers will block railway tracks for six hours as a protest between 10 is and 4 pm on Monday,” while speaking at a private event in Aligarh on Thursday.

Tikait further said that farmers from every district will block their nearest rail lines.

The farmers have accused the minister of criminal conspiracy and said that he has not been summoned or asked to step down. He also said that the arrest of his son Ashish came with a delay after being charged for killing farmers and a journalist.

“We will not get justice if he remains in office. So, unless he is sacked, we are going ahead with our rail roko programme,” announced Tikait.

Rail roko preparations have already begun. Farmers in Punjab have identified 36 points for the blockade.

Jagmohan Singh, the state general secretary of BKU in Punjab announced, “We will make sure no train from any state passes through these points.”

“About 600 people were asked to assemble at Raya’s station and nearly 400 people to gather at Mathura’s junction” to stop trains, District president of BKU in Mathura, Raj Kumar Tomar said.

Earlier, farmer leaders had said they would protest on October 26 by burning the effigies of senior BJP figures, rail roko agitation and a Maha Panchayat in Lucknow if the minister was not sacked by October 12.
