India Administers Over 9.84 Lakh 3rd Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccines On Day 1

Mumbai: According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 9,84,676 precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in India on Monday when the vaccination drive for the third dose began.

On the first day of the campaign, 9,84,676 were given their third dose, of which 5,19,604 were health workers, 2,01,205 were frontline workers and 2,63,867 were above 60 years of age.

Health workers and frontline workers aged 60 or older who took their second dose of the vaccine nine months ago got their third dose on Monday.

Beneficiaries are being given a “precautionary dose” of the same vaccine they took 39 weeks ago. They have to book a slot using their existing coin account.

As per the provisional report, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 1,52,89,70,294 with the administration of more than 92 lakh doses in the last 24 hours till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for adolescents between the 15-18 years age group began on January 3 this year amid rising cases of coronavirus in the country driven by the Omicron variant of the virus.
