India Gives Name To Evacuation Mission In Afghanistan, Calls It ‘Op Devi Shakti’

Mumbai: With the evacuation of Indian nationals, including citizens of Afghanistan and other countries, continued, India on Tuesday gave a name to the entire operation.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar informed through a tweet today that the operation is now being called Operation Devi Shakti. His tweet was in reference to the evacuation of 78 people from Afghanistan.

In this regard, the Union minister tweeted: “Op Devi Shakti continues. 78 evacuees from Kabul arrive via Dushanbe. Salute @IAF_MCC, @AirIndiain and #TeamMEA for their untiring efforts.”

Earlier, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, had also tweeted to inform that 78 people were being flown into the Indian capital from Kabul via Dushanbe (Tajikistan),

“Helping in the safe return from Afghanistan. AI 1956 en route to Delhi from Dushanbe carrying 78 passengers, including 25 Indian nationals. Evacuees were flown in from Kabul on an @IAF_MCC aircraft,” Bagchi had tweeted.

The batch included 25 Indian nationals and several Afghan Sikhs and Hindus. The team was flown from Kabul to Dushanbe on Monday.

The Indian aircraft also airlifted three copies of the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib along with the people of Kabul.

India has so far evacuated more than 800 people from Kabul since August 16. It was on August 15 that the Taliban had taken control of the Afghan capital.
