India Successfully Tests ‘Pralay’ Missile That Can Strike Targets Up To 500 km

Mumbai: India on Wednesday successfully conducted maiden launch of indigenously developed new generation surface-to-surface missile ‘Pralay’. The missile has a range of 150-500 kilometres and can be launched from a mobile launcher.

The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by the Defense Research Development Organization is based on the Prithvi defence vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile program.

DRDO said in a statement that the missile, which was launched from APJ Abdul Kalam Island at around 10.30 am, fulfilled all the objectives of the mission.

The new missile followed the desired quasi ballistic trajectory and reached the specified target with high accuracy, validated control, guidance and mission algorithms.

All the sub-systems performed satisfactorily. It said all sensors deployed near the point of impact on the east coast, including those from below range, track the missile trajectory and capture all incidents.

With a range of 150 to 500 km, Pralay is powered by solid propellant rocket motors and other new technologies. The missile guidance system includes state-of-the-art navigation and integrated avionics, the statement said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the concerned teams for the rapid development and successful launch of the advanced surface-to-surface missile.

Singh tweeted, “An important milestone achieved today.

Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defense-Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO said that the new generation missile will provide the needed impetus to the armed forces.
