Jayalalithaa’s Niece Granted Permission By Court To Sue ‘Thalaivi’ Makers

Mumbai: Film ‘Thalavi’ the biopic of the late J Jayalalithaa, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is in trouble. As per reports Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa has been granted permission to file a civil suit against the makers of the film by the Madras High Court.

Deepa will now be able to sue the director of the film AL Vijay and the producers of other projects being made on Jayalalithaa’s life, News Minutes. For the undisputed, Deepa moved the Madras High Court earlier in November, seeking a stay on two projects that would showcase Jayalalithaa’s journey in films and politics – a web-series directed by Thalaivi and Gautam Menon.

Deepa said in her affidavit that the filmmakers did not seek permission to screen Jayalalithaa’s life, nor did they have the necessary legal rights. She wants the film’s screenplay to be submitted to her in its entirety.

In the teaser, Kangana recreates Jayalalithaa’s iconic song from the 1965 Tamil blockbuster Vennira Aurai, which cuts the shot of her political rally. Two parts of the teaser describe Jayalalithaa’s character as ‘a superstar heroine’ and ‘a revolutionary hero’.
