Karnataka Lifts Night Curfew With Effect From Jan 31, Schools Set To Reopen

Mumbai: The Karnataka government has decided to lift the night curfew in the state, with effect from January 31. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CM BS Bommai on Saturday.  Also Read: Can Say Peak Of Third COVID-19 Wave Is Over In Maha: Health Minister

Schools for classes 1 to 9 will also reopen from Monday, January 31. If the positivity rate rises in one class, other students will be tested and that class will be closed. However, the school will continue. Also Read: Night Curfew From 10 pm-6 am Extended In 27 Cities In Gujarat Till Feb 4

Speaking to reporters, the minister also said that 50% occupancy in hotels, restaurants and pubs has been removed, which comes as a relief to the ailing hospitality industry. According to R Ashoka, would be due to the fact that people would be staying in a restaurant for a shorter duration as compared to a movie theatre, which will be a closed space compared to restaurants. Further, swimming pools, gyms, stadiums etc will also continue to have a 50% occupancy cap.

Earlier, a maximum of 200 people were allowed in weddings. Now, in an outdoor setting, 300 people are allowed for wedding ceremonies, while the number is 200 for indoor ceremonies. Offices are also allowed to open for 100% employees.

Also, the minister said that special services will be allowed at religious places. However, only 50 people will be allowed inside the temples at a time.

Public gatherings including fairs, rallies, protests, social and religious gatherings will remain banned.

R Ashok also said that vigil will continue in the border districts and negative RT-PCR test reports will be mandatory for those entering the state from Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra.

Karnataka reported 31,198 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, January 28. Fifty deaths were also recorded in the state. Meanwhile, 71,092 people have been discharged. The positivity for the day was 20.91% and the mortality for the day was 0.16%.
