K’taka Govt Withdraws COVID Night Curfew Imposed Between 10 pm-5 am

Mumbai: The Karnataka government on Friday released an order to immediately withdraw the night curfew imposed in the state from 10 pm to 5 am as COVID-19 cases continue to fall.

The curfew was from 10 pm to 5 am daily. Night curfew along with other lockdown restrictions was imposed in April 2021, when the second wave of COVID-19 infections hit Karnataka.

In the order of November 5 issued by Chief Secretary and State Executive Committee Chairman P Ravi Kumar, it has been said that the decision to withdraw the night curfew in the state will come into force with immediate effect.

The order also said that horse racing is allowed to resume in the state, strictly following the COVID-19 appropriate practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. However, ‘the number of racing patrons participating in horse races will be strict as per the seating capacity of the venue and only those fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to enter such premises. Will go,’ the order reads.

The Karnataka government had imposed a night curfew in April this year as part of efforts to mitigate the COVID-19 situation in the state. A government notification on this said that all shops and shopping malls will remain closed at 9 pm except those offering essential services.

However, as the second wave of COVID-19 came to an end, the state government opted for a phase-by-step ‘unlocking’ while an overnight curfew was imposed. Initially, it was from 9 pm to 6 am, but later it was increased from 10 pm to 5 am.

Karnataka has been seeing a low number of COVID-19 cases lately. On Thursday, November 4, the state reported 261 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths. With this, the total number of active  COVID-19 cases stands at 29,89,275, and the death toll reached 38,095. Bengaluru Urban district accounted for 157 new cases and one death.
