Let Ukraine-Returned Medical Students Finish Education: KCR To PM

Mumbai: Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi demanding that the medical students who returned from war-torn Ukraine be aided in completing their education.

“Indian students studying in various medical colleges in Ukraine were forced to return to India in conditions of extreme hardship due to interruption of their education at various stages and the sudden outbreak of war in Ukraine. Displacement is a threat to the future of these Indian students, who have devoted a lot of time and spent huge amounts of money to pursue their medical education in Ukraine, which is likely to remain unfulfilled,” wrote KCR in his letter to Prime Minister Modi.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief said that there are over 20,000 Indian students who have been displaced from Ukraine due to the war. Most of them are from middle-class families who would lose their life savings without any hope of completing their children’s medical education.

The Chief Minister said that there are more than 700 students of Telangana who have returned from Ukraine without completing their medical studies. Considering the difficulty faced by them, the Telangana government has decided that the medical college fees for Telangana students will be borne by the state government.

“Keeping in view the exceptional circumstances of these students, I request that in order to help them complete their education, as a special case, they may be admitted to the medical colleges of the country in equivalent semesters with relaxation in the existing rules. For this purpose, permission may also be accorded to proportionately increase the seats in different semesters in the medical colleges on a one-time basis to accommodate these students. I request you to kindly consider the matter sympathetically and take an early decision in this regard,” urged KCR.
