Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Calls Reports Of Attachment Of Properties ‘Baseless And Factless’

On Tuesday, the I-T department issued provisional orders to attach their properties in various cities, with a combined worth of around Rs 1,400 crore

Mumbai: The office of the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister has claimed that the properties allegedly linked to Ajit Pawar by the Income Tax, are “baseless and factless”.

Lawyer Prashant Patil clarified, “No provisional attachment or any kind of notice received for any of the properties linked with Dy CM Ajit Pawar. News planted in media is baseless and factless. I-T department has sought clarification over certain issues and that will be replied through the legal process.”

He also appealed to the media to kindly cross-check facts before publishing any such news.

The Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday extended support to Ajit Pawar, claiming that Pawar had “no links” with the properties attached by the Income Tax department and called it a motive “to defame him”.

It is to be noted that Ajit Pawar is the Deputy CM of the Maharashtra government and the nephew of Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik alleged that the BJP-led Centre is using its agencies to put pressure on the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra and that the state government will contest it “without any fear”.

“It is being said that the I-T department attached properties linked to Ajit Pawar. But there is no truth in it. The property belongs to someone else and they say that it belongs to Ajit Pawar. This is done to defame him,” Malik said.

Last month, The Income Tax department had conducting extensive nationwide raids on Ajit Pawar’s relatives. On Tuesday, the department issued provisional orders to attach their properties in Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Goa, along with more than two dozen land parcels across Maharashtra, with a combined worth of around Rs 1,400 crore.
