‘Massive Damage’ In Uttarakhand Due To Heavy Rains, CM Dhami Announces Aid Of Rs 4 Lakhs For Kins Of Deceased

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rainfall will reduce significantly from Wednesday

Mumbai: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the calamity struck regions in the state on Wednesday and said that there have been massive damages.

“Rainfall has slowed down. There has been massive damage. It’ll take time to return to normalcy – roads were washed away, there were landslides, rivers changed their routes, villages were affected, bridges collapsed,” Dhami said in Haldwani.

He informed that the priority is to clear the blocked roads and make arrangements for food & water for the people stranded in the region.

“Visiting all locations struck by calamity. We want to clear blocked roads first. Water had entered houses, local admin has been asked to make arrangements to see that people don’t lack food & water,” said CM Dhami.

Dhami added, “Rs 10 Cr each has been sanctioned for all DMs (district magistrates) as relief fund so that they make all arrangements immediately. Work is being done on war footing to clear the roads. We are rescuing the tourists who are stranded. The situation is slowly becoming normal at Char Dham Yatra.”

He also announced, “Rs 4 Lakhs compensation being given to families who lost someone.”

According to the figures published by the state government on Wednesday, the death tally due to heavy rains rose to 46 and 11 are missing.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rainfall will reduce significantly from Wednesday and the state will likely stay dry for the rest of the week.

This week, Uttarakhand received record-breaking rainfall which led to floods, landslides, and destruction of property.
