Mistakes Often Happen In Rage: Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren On Ranchi Violence

Mumbai: Commenting on the Friday violence that broke out in Jharkhand’s Ranchi over remarks on Prophet Muhammad, CM Hemant Soren said that mistakes often happen in rage. Massive protests broke out in Ranchi over the derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

“Awesh mein aksar galtiya hoti hai.. Aaj kahi na kahi har khabar, har chalchitr mein, kuchh hidden agenda chhupa hua hai. (Mistakes happen in rage. Today, behind every news item, every video, there is a hidden agenda),” Soren told reporters on being questioned about the Ranchi violence. Hitting back at Soren, Sanjay Seth, BJP MP, Ranchi questioned how attacking police was a ‘small mistake’.

“Is this a small galti? This statement does not have any standing in democracy. Mob attacked police. This is not a mistake that can be forgiven. I have never seen such a riot in my life. The ones who attacked police, the ones who attacked a temple and dented the image of the police, why are they not being arrested?” he questioned.

Alleging ‘conspiracy’, Seth asked why the state government was unprepared when posters were being put up inciting violence.

There were massive protests in Jharkhand’s Ranchi over alleged remarks against Prophet Mohammad. The riots prompted the administration to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in some parts of the city.

Police also suspended internet services in Ranchi as protests turned violent as two people died and 20 people, including policemen, were injured. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed before the Jharkhand High Court on Monday, seeking an NIA probe into the violence.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Governor asked the state administration to make the names of protestors public and directed the authorities to take necessary action.
