My Personal Opinion, Not Judging UPA’: Manish Tewari After Criticizing Cong-led UPA On 26/11

Manish Tewari's book ‘10 Flashpoints: 20 years - National Security Situations That Impacted India’ was released in the national capital on Thursday

Mumbai: Congress MP Manish Tewari, who in his book, had criticized the way the Manmohan Singh government acted after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008, on Thursday clarified that his intention was not to judge the UPA government on the Pakistan-backed Mumbai attacks.

“It is my personal opinion that kinetic action should have been taken, but I am not judging the action taken by the UPA government then,” News agency IANS cited Tewari as saying during a discussion on the book.

He further added that the UPA government lost the perception battle as its inaction following the Mumbai attack was considered a weakness by Pakistan.

Highlighting Operation Parakram in aftermath of the Parliament attacks, by the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, he said this was one such operation where the government could not strike Pakistan despite all the preparation, adding that this too was viewed as a weakness by Pakistan.

Tewari also pointed out the recent 2019 Balakot strike and said that the strikes were owned by the government, it did not yield the desired result as Pakistan is back to its designs against India.

In his book, ’10 Flash Points; 20 Years – National Security Situations that Impacted India’, Tewari has drawn a comparison between India’s reaction after the Mumbai terror attacks and the United States’ reaction post the World Trade Center attacks and said our actions should have spoken louder than our words.

“There comes a time when actions must speak louder than words. 26/11 was one such time when it just should have been done. It, therefore, is my considered opinion that India should have actioned a kinetic response in the days following India’s 9/11,” Tewari said in his book.
