Need To Ramp Up COVID-19 Vaccination: Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that there is a need to ramp up vaccinations at this time while the cases are declining as the pandemic is not over yet.

After virtually inaugurating a hospital and medical college at Alibaug in Raigad district, the CM said the vaccine reduces the severity of coronavirus infection. He said it acts as a “Suraksha Kavach” (protective shield).

“The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet. The question being asked for how long should we wear masks. It is difficult to comment on this at the moment. We need to use this time (when the cases are decreasing) to speed up vaccination,” Thackeray said.

In the ongoing vaccination drive, Maharashtra has conducted 3,84,948 vaccinations in 9,504 sessions on February 21. According to the data released by the government, 15,41,22,242 people have been vaccinated till 7 am on February 22.

According to state government data, 4,86,18,937 persons aged 18 to 44 years received their first vaccine dose and 3,55,20,000 received their second dose from May 1 for this age group. The vaccination campaign started.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 806 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, February 21, taking the number of active cases to 14,525. In addition, there were 4 COVID-19 deaths in the day, taking the total death toll to 1,43,586.
